Protecting Your UBL Account: Essential Phishing Awareness Guidelines

What is phishing?

Phishing is when criminals use fraudulent emails, texts, or calls pretending to be trusted organisations to trick you into providing sensitive information or clicking links that can steal your banking details.

How to Spot Phishing Attempts

Common Warning Signs:

·        Urgent requests for personal or financial information.
·        Spelling mistakes or poor grammar in communications.
·        Suspicious email addresses with random letters and numbers.
·        Links or attachments from unrecognised senders.
·        Claims of inactive or blocked accounts requiring immediate action.

Fake Website Red Flags:

·        Website links that slightly mimic legitimate banking sites.
·        Poor quality logos or inconsistent branding.
·        Requests for your full PIN numbers or passwords.
·        Sites asking you to "verify" or "update" account details urgently.

How to Protect Yourself

Essential Safety Steps:

·        Always verify independently - If you receive a call or email from UBL UK, which you believe to be suspicious, contact UBL UK directly through our official contact channels.
·       Be cautious before clicking the link -  Never click links in suspicious emails or texts. Always hover over links before clicking to verify the authenticity of the link.
·       Check for subtle errors - Look for subtle spelling differences in email addresses and website links. For example, does the link contain the number “1” in replace of the letter “I”.
·       Use official channels only - Access your account through our verified app or website. UBL UK’s official websites are:

·       https://www.ubluk.com

·       https://digitalbanking.ubluk.com/ (Personal Accounts)

·       https://businessbanking.ubluk.com/ (Business Accounts)

·       https://www.ubluknetremit.com/

·   You can also search “UBL UK Mobile Banking” or “UBL UK NetRemit” on the App Store and Google Play to access our official apps.

UBL UK Will NEVER:

·        Ask for your full PIN, password, or passcode via email, SMS, or phone.

·       Request you to transfer money to "safe accounts" to protect your funds.
·       Send urgent emails, text messages or phone calls demanding immediate action to avoid account closure.
·       Ask you to click links in emails to update account information.

What to Do If You Suspect a Phishing Attempt

1.    Stop immediately - Don't provide any information or click any links.
2.    Contact UBL UK directly - Use our official contact details to report any suspicious calls, emails or messages.
3.     Monitor your accounts – Turn transaction notifications on so you are made aware of any unauthorised transactions.
4.    Report to authorities – If you identify a phishing attempt, you can report this to Action Fraud at www.actionfraud.police.uk or by calling 0300 123 2040.
