Richard Wilton retired in March 2011 after 41 years’ service with HSBC Bank Plc and currently serves as the Senior Independent Non-Executive Director at UBL UK.

He has a broad banking background including senior management positions in retail, commercial and corporate and structured banking. In his last ten years with HSBC, Richard was Global Relationship Manager with a small portfolio of multi-national companies domiciled in the UK, Europe, Russia and the USA with interests across all major trading jurisdictions. The main product concentration was:  debt origination (bi-lateral and syndication), capital markets, international trade, FX/Treasury, electronic products and liquidity funds.

Richard also has extensive experience and knowledge of cross border regulatory requirements.

 

 

Mr Bande Hasan

Bande Hasan began his career with UBL Limited in Pakistan where he held a variety of positions over a ten year period in marketing, credit administration, trade finance and branch management. He spent the following nine years at UBL in Dubai where he spent three years as Senior Vice President and Regional Manager.  Bande then moved to London where he spent a year with UBL UK as Senior Vice President after which he returned to Dubai to take up the role of Deputy General Manager for Middle East Bank. This was followed by six years with Bank of Credit and Commerce (Overseas) Ltd in Miami, USA, as Senior Executive to the Latin America and Caribbean regions.

Bande’s roles thereafter include some years as General Manager at Bank of Credit and Commerce (Overseas) Ltd, Cayman Islands and as a consultant at Deloitte and Touche, also in the Cayman Islands. Following that he spent six years as CEO and Managing Director at Habib Overseas Bank Limited in Johannesburg, South Africa, followed by 16 years as CEO of Habibsons Bank Limited in London. 

Bande retired from executive duties in January 2015 and was subsequently appointed as Independent Non-Executive Director by UBL UK. In April  2018, he was appointed as Chairman of the UBL UK Board of Directors and served in this position for three years. Bande remains on the UBL UK Board as an Independent Non-Executive Director and currently chairs the Human Resources Appointments and Remuneration Committee for the Board.

 

 

Mr Masarrat Husain

Independent Non-Executive Director

Masarrat Husain is a risk and business professional.  His banking career spans 40+ years in seven countries and across three continents.  His initial 28 years were spent with Citibank, the next five years with Citibank’s affiliate, Samba, followed by nine years with Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank. 

He began his career in relationship management and gradually moved into risk and management positions which includes managing a banking subsidiary in London.  Masarrat’s experience covers analysing and approving risk for financing in various marketplaces and for products, as well as for clients in the Private, Commercial, Wholesale, Retail, Islamic Banking and Investment Banking business sectors including remedial portfolios.

Masarrat holds an MBA from Tulane University, New Orleans and a Bachelor of Science degree with a Major in Chemical Engineering from Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas.

 

 

Mr Shazad Dada

Non-Executive Director

Shazad Dada is a graduate with honours from University of Pennsylvania with Bachelors of Science and Bachelors of Arts degrees and also has an MBA from the Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania. He is a seasoned banker and a prominent capital markets professional, with around 30 years of diverse experience with renowned financial institutions in the United States and Pakistan. 

Before joining UBL as President & CEO, Shazad was the Chief Executive Officer and member of the Board of Directors of Standard Chartered Bank (Pakistan) Ltd (“SCBPL”) and Africa & Middle East Regional Management Team.  Prior to joining Standard Chartered, he was the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Barclays Pakistan. Shazad has also worked at the Deutsche Bank Securities Inc in New York for over 15 years in various capacities, last as the Managing Director in the Mergers, Acquisitions and Corporate Advisory Group, before moving back to Pakistan as the Managing Director for Deutsche Bank AG Pakistan. In addition, Shazad is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Developments in Literacy (“DIL”) Pakistan and Council Member of the Institute of Bankers Pakistan. 

Shazad is also associated with various reputed charitable organisations. His contributions on the sustainability front are immense especially for promoting education and health amongst the least privileged and advancing diversity and inclusion within the corporate world.

 

 

Mr Zia Ijaz

Non-Executive Director

Zia Ijaz has over 29 years of diversified banking experience, with vast expertise in Retail Banking. He currently heads Branch Banking Group & International Group at UBL Limited, Karachi. 

Prior to joining UBL, Zia served Allied Bank Limited (ABL) for over 12 years in various leading roles (CFO, Group Chief, Commercial & Retail Banking & Group Chief, Operations). Zia has also served as Financial Controller at Riyadh Bank in Saudi Arabia, and as CFO at Askari Bank. Prior to his banking career, Zia was associated with Ford Rhodes Sidat Hyder & Co. (member firm Ernst & Young). He is also Director on the Board of UBL UK.

Zia is a Chartered Accountant and a Fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan.

 

 

Mr Brian Firth

Executive Director

After graduating from Birmingham University, Brian Firth began his career in Finance in the late 1980’s with professional services firm Touche Ross & Co. in Cambridge. In 1992 he took up a Financial Accountant position with Pearl Assurance plc in Peterborough, one of the largest providers of life and general insurance and pension services in the UK at the time, until 1999 by which point he was Operations Financial Controller.

Brian joined UBL UK in London directly thereafter where he has remained.  During his 19 years with the Bank, he was appointed Project & Planning Manager in 2003; Financial Controller in 2005; CFO and Company Secretary in 2008; COO in 2017, Interim CEO in January 2018 and finally Brian was appointed CEO on 27 July 2018.
