Bande Hasan began his career with UBL Limited in Pakistan where he held a variety of positions over a ten year period in marketing, credit administration, trade finance and branch management. He spent the following nine years at UBL in Dubai where he spent three years as Senior Vice President and Regional Manager.  Bande then moved to London where he spent a year with UBL UK as Senior Vice President after which he returned to Dubai to take up the role of Deputy General Manager for Middle East Bank. This was followed by six years with Bank of Credit and Commerce (Overseas) Ltd in Miami, USA, as Senior Executive to the Latin America and Caribbean regions.

Bande’s roles thereafter include some years as General Manager at Bank of Credit and Commerce (Overseas) Ltd, Cayman Islands and as a consultant at Deloitte and Touche, also in the Cayman Islands. Following that he spent six years as CEO and Managing Director at Habib Overseas Bank Limited in Johannesburg, South Africa, followed by 16 years as CEO of Habibsons Bank Limited in London.  He retired from executive duties in January 2015 and was appointed Chairman of the Board of United Bank UK on 16 April 2018, where he had served prior to that as an Independent Non-Executive Director for two and a half years.

 

Ms Sima Kamil

Executive Director

Sima Kamil started her career at American Express Bank in Karachi, Pakistan and went on to work at ANZ Grindlays in Lahore followed by Standard Chartered in Pakistan. She then served at Habib Bank, Pakistan, for 16 years, first as Head of Corporate & Investment Banking and then as Head of Branch Banking. She left Habib Bank to join UBL’s Group Head Office in Karachi in March 2017 as Deputy CEO and was appointed President and CEO of UBL on 1 June 2017.

Sima’s 30 years’ experience in Banking have included assignments in Risk Management, Retail and Corporate and Investment Banking. She is also the Chair of the Board of Governors of Karachi Grammar School and is on the Board of the Notre Dame Institute of Education. She has a degree in business from Kingston University, UK, and an MBA from City University, London.

Sima is the first woman to head a major commercial Bank in Pakistan’s 70-year history.

 

Mr Brian Firth

After graduating from Birmingham University, Brian began his career in Finance in the late 1980’s with professional services firm Touche Ross & Co. in Cambridge. In 1992 he took up a Financial Accountant position with Pearl Assurance plc in Peterborough, one of the largest providers of life and general insurance and pension services in the UK at the time, until 1999 by which point he was Operations Financial Controller.

Brian joined UBL UK in London directly thereafter where he has remained.  During his 19 years with the Bank, he was appointed Project & Planning Manager in 2003; Financial Controller in 2005; CFO and Company Secretary in 2008; COO in 2017, Interim CEO in January 2018 and finally Brian was appointed CEO on 27 July 2018.

 

Mr Richard Wilton

Richard Wilton retired in March 2011 after 41 years’ service with HSBC Bank Plc. He has a broad banking background including senior management positions in retail, commercial and corporate and structured banking. In his last ten years with HSBC, Richard was Global Relationship Manager with a small portfolio of multi-national companies domiciled in the UK, Europe, Russia and the USA with interests across all major trading jurisdictions.

Richard has been President of the Woking Chamber of Trade and Industry for the past two years where he was a committee member for five years prior. He is additionally a Rotarian and a Round Tabler.

 

Mr Zia Ijaz

Non-Executive Director

Zia Ijaz has over 24 years of diversified banking experience. He currently heads International Banking, FI and Home Remittance/NRP business at UBL’s Group Head Office in Karachi, Pakistan.  Prior to that he was head of Retail Banking at UBL.

Before joining UBL, Zia served Allied Bank (ABL) in Pakistan for over 12 years in various leading roles:  CFO, Group Chief - Commercial and Retail Banking, and Group Chief - Operations.  Zia has also served as Financial Controller in Riyadh Bank in Saudi Arabia, and CFO of Askari Bank. Prior to his banking career, Zia was associated with Ford Rhodes Sidat Hyder & Co., a member of Ernst & Young.

He is additionally Director on the Board of UBL Switzerland AG & UBL Insurers Limited.

Zia is a Chartered Accountant, a Fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan, and a CPA from AICPA, USA.

 

Mr Muhammad Faraz Haider           

Non-Executive Director

Faraz Haider has over twenty-one years professional experience in retail and wholesale banking (including central banking) in Compliance and Operational Risk. Prior to joining National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) in December 2016, he held leading positions such as Country Head Operational Risk at Standard Chartered Bank, Pakistan;  Head of Compliance at Habib Metropolitan Bank, Pakistan (a subsidiary of AG Zurich) and Group Head Compliance, Legal and Fraud Risk at NIB Bank, Pakistan (a subsidiary of Temasek Group), amongst others.

At NBP as SEVP/Group Chief, Compliance Group, he manages the compliance review program, designing enterprise-wide compliance risk management frameworks and developing written compliance program/policy documents consistent with management objectives and regulatory compliance.

Faraz holds an MBA degree from the Institute of Business Administration, Karachi. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst from the CFA Institute USA, has passed the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Exam from AICPA, USA and is a qualified Financial Risk Manager (FRM) from GARP, USA. He is also a Certified Internal Auditor from the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), USA and a Certified Information System Auditor from ISACA, USA.  Additionally he is a certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist from ACAMS, USA and Certified Fraud Examiner from ACFE, USA.

 

Mr Arif Usmani            

Non-Executive Director

Mr Usmani began his career with Citi Pakistan in 1981 in the Corporate Banking Group and has since then held a number of positions. He has over 35 years’ experience across several geographic markets and areas in various banking disciplines, including a number of critical management positions in the Asia Pacific region. From 1989 to 1994, he was with Saudi Arabia's second largest bank, SAMBA (Saudi American Bank Group), in Riyadh, where he managed some of the largest borrowing relationships in the region.

In 1994, Mr Usmani relocated to Singapore and the Asia Pacific region, where he held a number of critical positions in different countries, including Hong Kong and Singapore, for a five year period. Later, he moved as Citi Country Officer to Slovakia where he is credited with significantly developing the business before taking over as Country Head, Citi Nigeria and Regional Head, West Africa - the latter role involving management of the Citi Franchises in Nigeria, Côte d'Ivoire, Cameroon, Gabon, the Republic of Congo and Senegal.

In 2003, Mr Usmani moved back to the SAMBA Financial Group as Chief Risk Officer and in 2008 he joined the Citi franchise in Pakistan as CEO. After four years he moved to ADIB (Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank) as Global Head of the Wholesale Banking Group, followed  by a couple of years as CRO at Mashreq Bank and thereafter his appointment as President and Chief Executive of National Bank of Pakistan.  He holds a First Class B.Sc (Hons) degree from Imperial College, University of London and is an Associate of the Royal College of Science.
